Starting over was never going to be easy, but their love would ease the way.
The saga continues as Jessie and Drake seek solace and sanctuary in a remote part of Alaska. An old friend of Drake's offers assistance and acceptance of the situation at hand while offering Jessie a deeper more religious look into her abilities. Soon upon meeting Anthony, Jessie begins to question and analyze her purpose in life. Having never really questioned her soul-catching ability before, Anthony's priestly insight only raises more questions as well as Jessie's body temp and gag reflex. But before Jessie can ponder too deeply, a second opinion has been called upon giving Jessie and Drake time to explore their surroundings and begin a new life together.
However, the town of Eagle River holds more than just endless blankets of snow. The supernatural community is awash of both werewolves and demons. Learning who to trust would require venturing out into town and exposing their true natures, but the true test would come when an unlikely encounter threatens their shaky new start. Add to that worries over those left behind in Jessie's "old life", a few demons wanting to make friends, and a murderer with a penchant for grisly killings. Jessie and Drake will not only fight for each other, but also for a forever kind of future that is finally within reach.
"Eternity was a long time, but I couldn't think of life without him. Love was more than a feeling of the heart and soul."
No matter how much time has passed between reading each book in the series, I still find it quite easy to step right back into the storyline as if no time has passed. This is in large part due to Ms. Abshire's writing ability and giving the reader enough details without being repetitive. The characters I've come to know and love stay true to form and the adventure they take is full of that unpredictable, fast-paced (and sometimes violent) fun I've come to expect. Although I didn't find this one as violently engrossing as the others in the series, the erotic and sensuous focus on the romance as well as the frustrations of the unknown were more than enough to keep me reading.
Jessie's perception of what is considered a too dangerous or possibly fatal move has always been extremely off kilter. Much of the suspense surrounds Jessie's spontaneity, but regardless of how reckless she is, I find myself really admiring her and how far she's come. Her long-held beliefs are called into question, but open her mind to other possibilities. Sounds as though there is a much higher purpose for her, but the devil has an agenda as well. Loneliness, isolation, temptations, not to mention some extremely dangerous bad guys are the battles Jessie faces in this story. Of course, she doesn't go it completely alone as the devilishly handsome Drake has learned a lot about Jessie and is putting it to good use to try and keep her out of trouble.
Out of all of the other books in the series, Love Conquers All Evil clearly shows how much Drake loves Jessie and what he's willing to do to keep her. His actions were romantic and Drake not only acts out his love for Jessie (in some very delicious ways), but also vocalizes it during some very endearing moments as well. However, this time around he wants more from Jessie than perhaps she is ready to give. The normally impulsive girl we've come to know and love is a bit more pensive when it comes to Drakes idea of their future. We really learn in this story how completely unwavering their love is for one another and how irrevocably it changes them both.
There's a nerve-wracking sort of excitement that builds while reading one of Ms. Abshire's stories and this one is no exception. You just know she has something up her sleeve just waiting for you to turn the next page. Never boring, always thrilling that's how I would describe Ms. Abshire's style of writing. This series is seductive and addicting... I can't wait for my next fix!
Hiding from the VETOV, Jessie and Drake move to a small town in Alaska—home to humans, demons, and werewolves. They soon discover a serial killer is on the loose and it's a demon stealing good souls. Jessie longs to end the fiend's rampage so she can send his soul to Hell. But finding the murderer won't be easy, especially after she bumps into a werewolf who had kidnapped and tried to kill her. Jessie reaches out to Alan, the Alpha she'd helped in Arizona. Alan and Drake work together to eliminate the threat against Jessie, but removing the werewolf may come with a steep price.
Over a roller coaster ride of events, Jessie battles for survival and her soul. Through all her struggles, she maintains a feverish love for Drake. On Christmas Eve, he presents Jessie with a surprise. Eternity never looked better for the half-demon soul catcher.
