Protecting Cheyenne is the fifth book in the SEAL of Protection series by Susan Stoker. While this book is part of a series, it can be read and enjoyed as a standalone novel.
Cheyenne is used to seeing military men, and even shops in a grocery store that has many frequent it. She even has a crush on one particular man. Faulkner “Dude” Cooper is an explosives expert in the military. When he is called to the grocery store to defuse a bomb he meets Cheyenne and is struck by how she carries herself and wants to get to know her better.
The beginning of the story leaves you dying to know how the book ends. By the end of the first chapter, I could not wait to finish the book. The author created a realistic world and was able to pull the reader into her world. The author was able to create a sense of time and location that helped bring new dimensions to the book. The pace of the story was fast paced from the first chapter to the last. At times I wished the story slowed down a bit. The main characters and the secondary characters were fascinating and realistic. Both Cheyenne and Dude had faults that they each had to battle making them realistic.
The point of view alternated between Dude and Cheyenne, giving the reader a glimpse inside both characters. The changing point of view was done with care so the reader did not get lost or repeat story lines. This book is filled with a lot to conflict. Cheyenne and Dude meet in an unlikely way only fall for each other than Cheyenne is targeted again. While there was a lot of conflict, it was never too much. Any less, and the story would have stalled. The dialogue between the characters was interesting and distinct. The characters voice matched the setting and also fit their overall personality. The ending was a bit predictable but the road to the end is filled with twist and turns that keep the reader interested until the very end. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
Living in Southern California, Cheyenne was used to seeing hot military men as she went about her daily business. An anonymous encounter at the grocery store cemented her crush on one such man. He was big, built, and incredibly easy on the eyes, but it wasn't as if he would ever really notice her.
Always in control of any situation, Faulkner “Dude” Cooper knows explosives. As a bomb expert, he's lived through many high pressure situations. Disfigured by a bomb while on a mission, he's used to being looked at with pity. When he's called to a local supermarket to assist the local PD, the last thing he expects to find is a generous act of kindness performed by a beautiful, amazing woman. Enchanted by her selflessness in the face of danger and intrigued by her actions to save civilians she didn't know, Dude’s hooked.
Dude was able to save Cheyenne from the group of thugs trying to take her life, but when the past comes back to haunt them both, sometimes having the knowledge and the desire isn't enough to beat the countdown of the clock.
**Protecting Cheyenne is the 5th book in the SEAL of Protection Series. It can be read as a stand-alone, but it’s recommended you read the books in order to get maximum enjoyment out of the series.
