I always experience a “fan girl” moment when I see Shelly Laurenston has a new book out. I fear that day I pick up the book and it’s not all I dreamed it could be. Thankfully, that has not happened and given that Laurenston just keeps getting better I doubt it ever will happen. The Undoing, the second novel, in the Calling Crows series is even better than the first. Shelly explores the combination of modern and ancient Nordic worlds with a case of characters that leaves the reading hoping all of them get their own book. Fans of Laurenston will enjoy her latest foray into this world, and new readers will quickly be searching for her backlist.
Jace Berisha has not had an easy life and her after life isn’t going that great either. When her husband killed her she had the opportunity to come back as a Crow Warrior fighting to prevent the end of the world by an angry, vengeful goddess. Unfortunately Jace came back with a lot of berserker rage and she’s having some trouble controlling all her emotions. Now the Sister Crows must join with their once enemy the Protectors, to try to stop the angry goddess from killing them and everyone else in the world. Protector Ski Eriksen just wants to keep the peace, and get to know Jace better but she’s not making it easy. The two must join together in the midst of chaos to somehow find a way to save themselves and their friends.
No one would ever accuse Jace Berisha of having an easy life--considering her husband…you know…killed her. But that was then! Now she fights for mighty Viking gods with the spectacular and vicious Crows.
But things are turning very bad, very quickly because a vengeful, ancient goddess has come into the world with just one thing on her mind--ending it. And the only way they can hope to stop her is if the Crows join forces with their one-time enemies, the Protectors. A Viking Clan created to do nothing but kill every Crow they see.
Thankfully, Protector Ski Eriksen is a peace loving kind of guy. Because the woman he is desperately trying to get close to is the beautiful and not-very-chatty Jace. Battling Nordic clans? Unkillable goddesses? Jace's mean-spirited dog? None of these things would ever get in the way of a true Viking!
