A Novel of the Iron Seas, #5

This third book in Meljean Brook’s Iron Seas series is just as unique and interesting as the previous books in this series. The world that this series is set in is as complex and varied as our own world today. Riveted is explores one part of this world, Iceland, with only brief references to the parts that were explored in the previous books which allows this book to be read independently from the others and thoroughly enjoyed.

The main characters, Annika and David, are wonderful. Annika is loyal to her friends and family and though her nickname among them is rabbit, she is able to show the courage of a wolf if needed. David studies volcanoes. He was severely as a child making it necessary to graph mechanical limbs onto his body. The accident that injured him killed his secretive mother and the secrets she kept as led David to Annika who keeps the same secrets. Revealing the secrets isn’t up to Annika but soon she finds herself needing to share those secrets to stop a madman but if she does she may not be able to ever return home.

Whether you are a romance lover or a fantasy fan, this book is a treat for readers of both genres. Lots of action and a multi-layered plot allow this fast paced book to keep my interest and keeps my imagination working overtime. Ms Brooks knows how to write superb steampunk.

But that home is threatened when scientific expedition leader David Kentewess comes aboard, looking to expose Annika's secrets. Then disaster strikes, leaving David and Annika stranded on a glacier and pursued by a madman, with their very survival depending on keeping the heat rising between them--and generating lots of steam...
