The latest in the Serendipity series is an entertaining read with a couple that had an ability to frustrate and delight me as I followed their story. As with any Carly Phillips book, it was cleverly written and has the reader running the gamut of emotions as we follow Mike and Cara to their happily ever after.
Mike Marsden was a man who was struggling with his identity. He knew he was loved by his mother and adoptive father, but he often times found himself restless and running from things when it felt like the walls were closing in. In that regard, he felt more like his biological father, the one that ran away before he was born. But he loved his family and he proved that he was willing to drop everything and come back home to help his father by taking over his job as chief of police. He was definitely confused and tried everything he could to run away from his restlessness. If only he had known what would cure him was the love of the right woman.
Cara Hartley doesn’t trust easily, but she fiercely protects those that she loves or feels needs protection. Being an officer for the Serendipity Police Department helps her feel like she’s saving people who need it, even when she couldn’t save her own mother from a life of domestic violence. Cara’s trust issues also make it nearly impossible for her to find a man to build a relationship with. With Mike, she tries to curb her feelings and make her head ensure her heart knows what they have is temporary. What they have is not always pretty, but what she feels is real and she only feels it for him.
Mike Marsden left Serendipity to hide in the Manhattan police department. But when his father calls in and needs him to come home, Mike is there. But returning to Serendipity means coming face to face with Cara, the one night stand that he can’t forget. As they start working a cold case together, he discovers he doesn’t really want to forget her and might just figure out that he’s a forever kind of guy.
Carly's NY Times Bestselling SERENDIPITY series was such a hit with readers, she brings you back to the picturesque upstate NY town, where three siblings have grown up in the shadow of their proud and respected police chief father. But what do love, fate, and fortune have in store for the next generation of Serendipity's finest?

Back in the shadow of his family, he's as lost and restless as ever, until he's challenged by someone he never anticipated.
