Always You

Lyla's a person who's very soul has been damaged, not by the death of her boyfriend, but what she see as the ultimate betrayal by Alex. She's closed herself off to every person she's come in contact with since she left Alex. It's almost as if she holds every person up to the standard she held Alex to and includes his betrayal in there as well, assuming they will hurt her just like Alex. What was truly interesting with Anna was underneath all the hate she's been harboring for Alex was the need to love him with all her matter what.

Alex had given up his playboy ways when he met Lyla. He fell head over heels for his best friend's girlfriend while helping her grieve. She was the only woman he'd ever loved and he was devastated when she left and even more so when she wouldn't let him apologize or explain what had happened. For Lyla, he changed his ways and vowed that he would get back the woman he truly loved.

Throughout the story, we witness the reuniting of Alex and Lyla and how they deal with being around each other after five years. While Alex plots ways to be near Lyla and win her over, Lyla does what she can to avoid him because she can feel her anger and resolve slipping. Their emotions seem to leap off the page at you and draw you into the middle of their relationship. I found myself wanting to do whatever I could to convince Lyla to give Alex a chance.

This story was only 115 pages, but it most definitely was the most emotionally challenging and engaging 115 pages I've read in quite sometime. I was absolutely captivated by both characters and didn't want it to end.
