Julie Rowe returns readers to the world of biological warfare and this time around is as exhilarating as ever. I have been waiting for Max's story and this was well worth the wait. In encounters from the previous stories Max has appeared larger than life and it was fabulous to see the all too human side of the Colonel. He is such a fascinating man able to work calmly in chaos his strength and intelligence is highly attractive and the fact that he can wisecrack under pressure makes him even more admirable. The fact he has such an issue with violence in no way made him weaker in my eyes. I loved how he wanted to protect his bodyguard and yet he admired Alicia's skills more than most of her comrades. Alicia is a strong admirable heroine, she isn't perfect, which makes her more likable, she is smart and capable, with a kind heart and quick reflexes. I was fascinated by her interactions with her fellow soldiers, her father and most especially with Max. I enjoyed the action and the crisis of this story and while it was truly gritty it was nowhere near excessively graphic or unduly violent. I had thought this story would be the last in the series I'm so glad I was wrong because it looks like there are going to be more.

The heat builds between them, but danger quickly follows. As the two get closer to the source of the virus, they'll have to risk their future to outsmart a scientist with nothing to lose.
