Kerrigan was not born into nobility, and did not grow up with the comforts and necessities of regality. Truth is Kerrigan was born of a peasant woman who despised him. He was just an ordinary young man trying to survive a difficult life and in need of a sword to protect him from those that wished to injure him. One day he found such sword, a weapon created by the fey with immense power, designated for one of special birth. Unbeknownst to Kerrigan, the day he grasped the hilt of that sword his life would forever be changed. It would alter Kerrigan's destiny and he would become the champion of all things evil.
Seren was a weaver's apprentice with no life to call her own. Her only dream of freedom came with the hope that she would be able to sell a scarlet cloth that she had woven with her mother's old loom. Her dreams where shattered when she was told her creation was not good enough and not her own. Dismayed and torn, she is approached by two knights that reveal to her that she is to be Mother of the next Merlin. Startled by this revelation, Seren runs right into the path of a horse and mounted rider Kerrigan.
Kerrigan is heartless and ruthless and has never met anyone as caring and strong as Seren. She has awakened something in him that seemed forever lost. Can Kerrigan claim King Arthur's Round Table by destroying Seren, or can Seren's courage save them both from the evil forces led by Morgan le Fey. Will the two of them embrace their destinies or alter them?
Kinley MacGregor who also writes as Sherrilyn Kenyon did an exceptional job breathing life into this story. This book had me cheering for the main characters from beginning to end. I have always found gargoyles and dragons fascinating and Ms. MacGregor did a fantastic job incorporating these into the plot. The book was witty, humorous, and highly entertaining. The series is a great read and worth collecting. It is no surprise that Lords of Avalon is now a comic book series.
Anything Else: I would definitely categorize this as recommended read.
The new king of Camelot wears no shining armor: Arthur and his knights have fallen and a new king rules. In the darkest forest... A scared, forsaken youth has become the most powerful -- and feared -- man in the world. Ruthless and unrestrained, Kerrigan has long ceased to be human. In the heart of London... A spirited peasant mired in drudgery, Seren dreams of becoming her own woman, but never expects that by fleeing her fate, she will meet her destiny. Their worlds are forever changed... Kerrigan's goal is simple: barter or kill Seren to claim Arthur's Round Table. Yet she is the one person who holds no fear of him. More than that, her nobility sparks something foreign inside him. In his nether realm, kindness is weakness and a king who harbors any sort of compassion loses his throne. For countless centuries, Kerrigan has lived alone in the shadows. Now Seren's courage has forced him into the light that will bring either salvation to both of them...or death.
