Mr. Ridley

The Whipping Society Book 1

I'm delighted that Delilah Marvelle has started a new historical romance series, starting with Mr. Ridley, due out on February 28th. The author hinted about her Whipping Society series in her School of Gallantry series and it's finally here and worth the wait!

With all of Delilah's novels, there are always twists on her tales and an edge of realism about life in historical times that isn’t always pretty. In Mr. Ridley, our heroine is a bright and beautiful lady who was born in Calcutta India and arrested in London England for a crime she didn't commit. Our hero is the only one who has the power to save her but of course the story is about them saving each other from external danger and internal pain. The story is layered with historical information so you feel like you have stepped back in time. To my surprise, there was a nod to Sherlock Holmes and Edgar Allen Poe.

However, this book is a different from the traditional historical romance novel in the sense that the couple's story is not wrapped up at the end of this book. There will be a total of three books with the plan to publish them every two months. Thus Mr. Ridley is the set-up portion for this story so readers will have to wait for physical interactions but there is plenty of teasing and naughty bits to know that it will be worth the wait. I’m really looking forward to experiencing their happily ever after.
