It's not very often that I find a book this thrilling and spine tingling. to say I was impressed with this novel is putting it extremely mildly. I was hooked from the very first page. The story itself is tragic in it's scope, and very dark and twisted, like the best mysteries are. I fell hard for both Virginia Troy, our heroine, and Cabot Sutter, our hero, both of whom have more than enough ghosts from their shared past to haunt them. I found this tale of mystery and murder, betrayal and terror, to be incredible! This book has made it's way to the very top of my favorites list, and it will take a lot to dethrone it. I will caution that it's not meant for delicate readers.
Its been close to twenty yeas since the fateful night of the fire that changed her life forever. Virginia Troy, proprietress of a local art gallery, never really thought about it, until one of her artists ends up dead with a very cryptic message. It made her think. Perhaps the demon from that long ago night is still around? Enter Cabot Sutter. Like Virginia, he too was a child on that fateful night so long ago. But now he's a private investigator. Virginia hires him, and they go hunting down a demon. As events around them begin to unravel, sparks begin to fly between the two of them. As the mystery deepens, the danger grows exponentially for both Virginia and Cabot. Only time will tell if they survive and live to face the demon....or not.
A broken promise reveals a terrifying legacy in this electrifying novel from the New York Times bestselling author of When All the Girls Have Gone.
A painter of fiery, nightmarish visions throws herself into the sea—but she’ll leave some of her secrets behind...
Seattle gallery owner Virginia Troy has spent years battling the demons that stem from her childhood time in a cult and the night a fire burned through the compound, killing her mother. And now one of her artists has taken her own life, but not before sending Virginia a last picture: a painting that makes Virginia doubt everything about the so-called suicide—and her own past.
Like Virginia, private investigator Cabot Sutter was one of the children in the cult who survived that fire...and only he can help her now. As they struggle to unravel the clues in the painting, it becomes clear that someone thinks Virginia knows more than she does and that she must be stopped. Thrown into an inferno of desire and deception, Virginia and Cabot draw ever closer to the mystery of their shared memories—and the shocking fate of the one man who still wields the power to destroy everything they hold dear.
