Romancing the Undercover Millionaire

Dreamspun Desires

“Romancing the Undercover Millionaire” by Clare London features Alex Bonfils, sometimes feckless younger son in prestigious wine merchant family, who decides to personally investigate troubling events at their main warehouse—undercover. He manages to snag an “internship” from the warehouse manager, Tate Somerton, and starts looking into the sabotage that is taking place. What he doesn’t expect is the danger he will find…to his heart.

This contemporary gay romance is part of the ‘Dreamspun Desires’ series and does a great job of giving a new twist to the idea of the Undercover Boss who works incognito to evaluate his workers. Part of the charm of this story is due to Tate’s family, the fascinating secondary characters of two generations who keep everyone around them on their toes. Alex is definitely a fish out of water as he navigates the challenges of setting aside the privileged and hedonistic lifestyle he has taken for granted and learns to do such mundane things as darn socks or work with his hands. I love that both main characters display hidden depths and gradually learn to accept each other’s foibles and the contrast between the two men allows each to complement the other nicely. The mystery of the saboteur was a little underplayed to me and I thought things were smoothed over rather quickly but I definitely enjoyed the romance and evolution of the relationship and I hope this quirky family gets another visit at some point in the future.

Can poverty and privilege find a loving compromise?

Alexandre Bonfils, a rich and spoiled second son, is tired of being ignored and decides to help when the family’s exclusive wine business is in trouble. Going undercover in the warehouse, he loves the adventure—and the chance to be close to the sassy and sexy manager, Tate Somerton.

Tate is hardworking and financially struggling, bringing up his siblings on his own. A suspected saboteur at work is his latest challenge, but now he also has a clueless, though very attractive, new intern. There’s an immediate spark between the ill-matched couple, until a shocking accident cuts short Alex’s amateur sleuthing.

While recovering in the generous care of Tate and his family, will Alex realize what belonging really means? Passion and pride come together to fight for the company they’re both committed to preserving, but can a personal bond remain when the dust settles?
