If I Loved You

Harper Falls, #1

This fun and sensual contemporary romance has kind of wacky characters and situations, nice twists, and intriguing secondary characters. Rose’s challenging history, Jack’s unconventional family, the strong friendships that each has formed, all combined to make this an intriguing and entertaining story. There are a few places that would benefit from a bit of editing, but the overall story is entertaining and has threads that are obviously designed to tie in to other stories in the series but nothing that is a cliffhanger. I thought that Jack’s bet was a bit juvenile, but it did add to the complications of the story and facilitated the establishment of a relationship, so it did serve a purpose. I would be interested in finding out what is going on between the secondary characters and look forward to reading more in the series.

“If I Loved You” by Mary J. Williams is Book One of the ‘Harper Falls’ series and centers around Rose O’Brian, who renews her acquaintanceship with Jack Winston and decides to end her sexual drought with him. The only problem? He turns her down, despite his apparent interest. Their proposed relationship and her music-writing assignment both have highs and lows that may turn out to have too many obstacles to overcome, but Jack has never been a quitter, and he’s not going to start now.
