As You Wish by Gabi Stevens is the sequel to The Wish List and is the second novel in her "Time of Transition" trilogy. Reggie Scott has been pitied by her friends and family for 27 years because she is a Groundling, meaning that she has no magic and has to exist as a human instead of living as one of the favored Arcani. Her work at her bakery keeps her occupied and satisfied until one day she is thrust into the politics surrounding the appointments of the new fairy godmothers after her aunts inform her that she is one of the three new appointees. Suddenly, Reggie has magic and has to rely on help from her friends, including the mysterious Nate who always comes to the bakery swathed in material that hides his visage from the world, as well as the newly met Jonathan Bastion, a charismatic and renowned but reclusive wand-maker. An antagonistic witch who is supposed to be acting as her arbiter but seems to have a special agenda for the Council seems to be less than responsive to Reggie's questions plus a missing magical book and the controversy surrounding the other newly appointed fairy godmother add to the chaos. Reggie must learn to master her newfound magical powers while investigating the claims of the Council regarding treason and deal with the unforeseen incandescent attraction between Jonathan and herself before she is condemned to a path from which she can never recover.
A sensual fantasy that gives a new twist to the idea of fairy godmothers (these are definitely not Flora, Fauna & Merryweather!). A couple of fairy tales are melded together to make a modern version that is a delightful light read with some surprisingly spicy scenes. An enjoyable introduction to characters who prove that one person's perception of handicap status often depends on perspective. An entertaining romp that will encourage the reader to await the introduction of the third godmother with bated breath.
Born into a magical family, Reggie Scott is content to live out her life as a normal human until the moment she’s informed that she’s a newly appointed fairy godmother. Left struggling to deal with powers the never thought she’d have, Reggie faces a curse, a plot to overthrow the Arcani, and an entirely too enthusiastic mother—all in a matter of days.
Jonathan Bastion is a man of power and wealth—and a dangerous secret. He desperately hopes that Reggie's new powers will hold the answer to his problem and he isn't above using her to achieve his goals. What he doesn't expect is how much Reggie will affect him. Her honor, her honesty, and her strength quickly make cracks in his ruthless exterior.
As danger from the Arcani swirls around them both, Jonathan realizes that what was once a ploy to get Reggie to assist him has become a battle to keep her safe and protected…in his arms.
