This is the second book in the Three River Ranch series and I have to say that I enjoyed this one as well. One thing that I would like to mention is that at first, I found Desiree Burke to be an annoying woman because she seemed to have all the answers all the time. I do not like when characters are portrayed like this because it makes me immediately turn myself off to them due to their annoying behavior. I kept reading though and it did take me quite a while to finally warm up to her. I absolutely loved cowboy Zach Gamble. He had plenty to deal with and unfortunately his past scarred him quite a bit. Having to deal with survivor’s guilt is nothing easy to do and I was glad when he met Desiree because being that she was a physical therapist, she was the last hope in trying to help his dad recover from the very car accident that took Zach’s younger brother’s life. If the father did not get over his medical issues soon, the Gamble men would have to face eviction off of their beloved ranch. I was happy that Desiree provided some help to these men and it was not a bad thing that Zach and Desiree had some chemistry flowing between them that only sweetened the storyline even more so for me.
Dealing with survivor’s guilt seems to be eating away at Zach Gamble, but being the tough cowboy that he is, he perseveres. Unfortunately though, he worries that his father will not be able to heal enough to get back on his feet again in time to save the ranch from being taken over. In a last ditch attempt, Desiree Burke arrives and begins working on Zach’s father. Hopefully, her physical therapy skills will start his father’s healing process and they will have enough time to get the ranch running the way it should be before it is taken away from them. If this is not enough for Zach to deal with, he also is confronted with the fact that he is strongly attracted to Desiree. But both of them have scarred pasts that could very well be the death of a possible relationship before it even starts. Do Zach and Desiree act upon their attraction for each other?
The last place city girl Desiree Burke expected to find herself was living at and working on a ranch, much less butting heads with the ranch’s sexy cowboy owner, Zach Gamble. But that’s exactly where she ends up after an incident at work leads her to her best friend Rory’s doorstep. Desiree is a gifted physical therapist, and Rory knows exactly where her brand of tough love is needed the most.
Zach’s been through hell and back. A devastating car crash left his brother gone, his father paralyzed, and him with mental scars a mile wide. His survivor guilt alone makes him sure he doesn’t deserve to find love. But as Des works her way into his ranch, his family, and his life, suddenly the last person who belonged there is the only one he believes belongs…with him.
