Maya Banks is always able to suck me into one of her books and "Brighter Than the Sun" is no exception. The Kelly’s have always fascinated me and I have been waiting to here Rusty’s story for years, so I was glad when I found out she plays a bigger part in this. Zoe owes Rusty everything when Rusty basically gives her a new identity to start over and takes her home to stay with her family. Zoe has secrets and even though it’s not noticeable, Joe notices it off the back. Something about Zoe pinged his radar and he really wants to get to know her, which is great. One thing I loved is that you can relate to the characters, you felt their emotions as they dealt with certain things: fear, anger, horror, pain; and rooted for them every step of the way.
When the danger from Zoe’s past comes back to haunt her the Kelly’s work together to get her back. Even though I love the Kelly’s dearly, I absolutely hate the way the treat Rusty at certain times and I’m glad that Zoe has backed me up so to speak. She lit into the Kelly’s like nobodies business and they really needed that swift kick in the ass. Sean really needs a punch in the face, I felt like strangling him. Rusty knows her thoughts and what she wants. Sean treated her like a child who still needed to be protected. I was also very proud of Rusty for finally standing up for herself when it came to them too. Rusty is not that scared little child that broke into the Kelly’s home for some food, she is an adult who is very capable of taking care of herself and they need to realize that. "Brighter Than the Sun" is a book I recommend.
