Midnight Secrets

Men of Midnight, #3

This has got to be one of the scariest books I've read in a long time. Yes, it is a romance and a really good one at that. But the back story is bone chilling and hitting a little close to what is going on in the world today. That's what makes it scary.

I have been a fan of this author for years and I don't see that changing any time soon. She writes about alpha males and strong women, and how they find one another and become a unit for life. Joe and Isabel are the focus of this particular story and both are wounded but only one is really healing. Joe has people who care about him, support him and abuse him with physical therapy to recover from his almost life-ending injuries in the line of duty. Isabel is all alone due to an act of terrorism and the lack of love and support shows in how slowly she's recovering. When Joe takes an interest, so do his friends, and Isabel finds herself responding. But the horror that took her family isn't staying in the past, and she's in the right place at the right time when danger comes knocking.

Not enough good to say about the Midnight Men series. Joe is classic male struck dumb by the "one." But not too dumb. He's a military man, and fresh out of that to boot. His restraint and self-admonishments were admirable and entertaining. Isabel just broke my heart, but under all that despair beat the heart of a strong woman. The story was fast-moving and had a purpose. I'm left wondering at some of the twists and turns and hoping that our government really doesn't operate this way. Could greed really do this to people in power? A very good read in a very good series.

Book Blurb for Midnight Secrets

Former navy SEAL Joe Harris nearly died—twice—on a medevac helo after being blown up by an IED. He's not moving too great these days, but if there was ever a woman designed to jump-start a man's hormones, it would be his new neighbor.

Meeting Isabel—loving Isabel—brought Joe back to life.

Isabel Delvaux came from one of America's foremost political dynasties, until the greatest terrorist attack since 9/11 killed her entire family. She barely survived the Washington Massacre, only to become prey for rabid reporters. Fleeing to Portland and changing her name was a way out, a way to start over. The only way.

She knows she's safe with Joe Harris. Not just because he's big and strong, not just because he's part of a security team that obliterates threats on the regular, but because he's been to the abyss and back.

But as they help each other heal—through talk, through touch, through spectacular sex—the past comes back to play. When Isabel's memory starts to return and a mysterious stranger sends Joe emails indicating Isabel is in imminent danger, he'll do anything to help her uncover the truth. Even if that truth is the most terrifying thing of all…
