A Touch of Lilly
This story is an excellent combination of Sci-Fi/Fantasy and Erotica. The characters drew me into their world and I didn’t want to put this book down. The erotic elements were very well done and I felt the need for a cold drink several times while reading this book which is taking place during the year 2253.
Lilly D’Angelo is part human and part alien, she has spent her adult life dealing with the difficulty of her alien half. Lilly’s partial non-human ancestry gives her a specific talent in that she can manipulate male hormones and drive men to frantic sexual need. She is not comfortable with her talent but events in her past on Earth have left her with no choice but to use whatever she can to earn a living as a bounty hunter. She uses her powers to place her “targets” in a sexual fog so that they don’t notice that she has apprehended them until after she gets them in a prison cell. She’s currently on Garralon Five chasing after a criminal with a hefty bounty that will enable her to live comfortably for about six months. Her heart’s desire is to find a man who can resist her alien powers and who will love her for herself.
Dallas Sawyer is a human agent working for QAL, the Nebula Galaxy’s version of the FBI. He’s been working for them for five years and is carrying some heavy emotional baggage from an operation that went down wrong. Dallas is also carrying some mechanical blood from a transfusion that he had to have due to the mission that was a failure. His current assignment is on Garralon Five where he plans to catch a master criminal that QAL has been after for more than 2 years. Dallas is determined that nothing will get in the way of his mission’s success and the only person that he really trusts is his alien partner, Thaegan.
Circumstances have both Lilly and Dallas after the same criminal and in the bar that he is said to frequent at the same time; it’s a dry run for their separate plans. They are instantly attracted to each other but Lilly questions whether the attraction is genuine or if it is caused by her alien powers. Dallas is unaware of Lilly’s true nature and in reality is just attracted to her; something in his nature makes him able to resist her alien powers. When Lilly attempts to apprehend her target, both Dallas and Thaegan get involved not realizing what is really taking place. The assassin manages to flea and Dallas and Thaegan take Lilly into custody. This leads to them being in close physical quarters and it is then that Thaegan recognizes Lilly’s alien nature, which leads to some very interesting interaction between all three of them. The question then becomes can Dallas and Thaegan trust Lilly enough to make her a silent part of their plan to take down the assassin and will their threesome have a happy ending?
The action is almost non-stop in this book and the emotions that the characters are experiencing come across as genuine and heartfelt. I understood Lilly’s desire to be loved for herself and not for the physiological effects that she could force on a man. I also understood Dallas’s disenchantment with a job that he had undertaken with high ideals and with the loneliness that all law enforcement officers seem to experience at some time or another during their career. Thaegan was a great alien and a true “brother in arms” to Dallas. I am really looking forward to reading more of Ms. Pierce’s work.
