Cera's Place

I enjoyed this historical tale about a tough, beautiful woman able to hold her own in a male dominated society. Cera runs a respectable saloon in the seedier part of town. She and her partner employ a diverse group of ladies. There are plenty of humorous moments as the group interacts with each other and with Cera. I would have liked more detail concerning their backgrounds. There were one or two serendipitous events that just seemed slightly too pat. I really loved the historical flavor of the Old West that the rough and tough setting of this story provided. Overall, it held my interest and kept me cheering for the underdogs.

Cera Cassidy is not looking for romance, and the scruffy drifter who turns up looking for one of her employees hardly endears himself to her at first sight, or second, or third. Jake Tanner, though, has finally accomplished what he set out to do four years ago, but now he needs to put the haunting memories of the past behind him. Meanwhile, murders are being covered up and young, innocent girls have disappeared. Cera is determined to gather the evidence necessary to put the villains behind bars and make the town safer. Jake is cramping her style until she realizes that just maybe her opinion of him is a tad bit harsh.
