Love Letters

Chloe Rogers thought she had everything she wanted. She had a great boyfriend, Richard, who had just proposed, and she also had a great job, which she really loved, at a bridal boutique in town. Then one day, Josh Goldman, her childhood sweetheart came back to town and everything that she thought was set in her life, turned upside down. With Josh’s return came unbidden feelings that Chloe thought she had buried when Josh left town many years ago at the age of twelve. Suddenly, she began to realize that her love for Josh had never truly gone away and Richard was not quite as perfect as she had once thought him to be.

Also adding to the quandary that Chloe’s life is in, is the mystery of the love letters. Chloe stumbles across love letters addressed to her mother, while cleaning out the attic. They are from a man named Ignacio and are dated 1968. As Chloe begins to read the letters, she can’t help but wonder why her mother, Suzanne, never married this man who appears to be her true love instead of Chloe’s father. Chloe decides to try and unravel the mystery of Ignacio, perhaps rekindling an old love for her widowed mother. In the process, she finds an unlikely ally in Josh. He is very interested in the love letters and puts his head together with Chloe to make sense of them. The more involved with the love letters they get, the closer they become. Soon Chloe is faced with a major dilemma, does she marry Richard for comfort and security, or does she marry Josh for true love?

Love Letters is a very sweet, contemporary love story. It is all about relationships, rekindling them, repairing them and ending them. Not only are Chloe’s relationships with Josh and Richard explored in this book, but also the strained relationship between Chloe and her mother. The story imparts the message that it is never too late to follow your heart and reach for love. The author did a splendid job of not only telling the love story between Chloe and Josh, but also telling the love story between Chloe’s mother, Suzanne and her lost love Ignacio. I found myself hanging on the love letters as they were read as well. I thought this book had a wonderful touch of whimsy to it and was a great escape for a day of reading. If you enjoy romances with happy endings, you are going to love this one.
