Spy Glass

Glass Series, Book 3

Spy Glass by Maria V. Snyder centers on Opal who is trying to adapt to the loss of her magic and rejoice in her sister’s upcoming marriage to her mentor Yelena’s brother. She still hasn’t reported to the Sitian Council that one of the side effects of all that she has endured is that she is now immune to magic since she has the ability to act as a null shield, Yelena’s mate Valek offers to train her in some of the skills needed to be an effective assassin after Opal realizes that there may be a cache of her blood still in existence and decides to hunt for it. The hunt takes her back into contact with the men who tortured her and stole her blood but she discovers that one of them, Devlen, has apparently repented and wants to atone for his past misdeeds. A Lieutenant Finn from the prison befriends Opal and she discovers that she is attracted to two diametrically different men despite her relationship with the stormdancer Kade. Opal must struggle to find her niche in life while trying to adapt to her magical status and while fighting against those who would use blood magic to rule the world.

We have another exciting chapter in Snyder’s “Glass” series that tries to reconcile some of the upheavals that have occurred in the kingdoms of Ixia and Sitia. Opal continues to struggle with her losses despite the support of her many friends, both two-legged and four-legged. The Sandseed horses prove themselves as invaluable as ever and their names for those they consider members of their herd are enlightening. An enjoyable read that will intrigue those who aren’t familiar with the series and entertain those who are already fans.
