The girls of Night Owl Romance are pleased that you have granted us an interview
We would love to get to know you
Could you please start by telling us a little about yourself?
I'm a retired Texas school teacher, have been married 40 years, have two grown children, one grandson, and live in Central Texas with my husband and our dog Molly. We've lived in many parts of Texas, but our favorite area is the desert and magnificent sunsets of West Texas. I began writing in 1991, seriously in 1998.
If you could be one of your characters - Who would you be? And why?
Texanna Keith in My Heart Will Find Yours coming soon from The Wild Rose Press because she sets out on an adventure that changes her life and introduces her to the man who is her destiny. A twenty-first century woman, she gets to experience life in the nineteenth-century.
Who or what influences you when you write?
Life experiences, dreams, television shows (especially the history and science channels), and some things I read.
When I taught school is West Texas, I took my students to a working/dude ranch as part of our building leadership activity. There they rode horses and participated in activities that encouraged self-esteem and improved group participation skills. Part of my first novel, When the Ocotillo Bloom, grew from those experiences.
What do you do on a typical writing day?
I usually grab a cup of coffee and a light breakfast and head for the computer while still in my pajamas. It may be noon before I get dressed. After a lunch break I go back to the computer. My time isn't always spent writing. I have to check all the blogs I participate in, my emails, loops, and see if there is something I have to have on ebay. Also, I'm up and down putting clothes in to wash, doing dishes, etc., and my dog can be demanding some days.
Can you please give us a sneak peek at any of your upcoming books?
A Law of Her Own, a short story with The Wild Rose Press, is available now.
She won't let an innocent man hang-
When Charity Dawson resigns her father's corporate law firm to pursue a career as a trial lawyer she gets more of a change than she wanted. She finds herself transported to 1888 Texas in the middle of a murder trial. Turner Reardon is on trial for the murder of his mistress. He's given up all hope when an oddly dressed young woman disrupts his trial claiming she's a lawyer and can prove his innocence. Her testimony is brilliant but, his optimism is short lived when she claims to be a lawyer. Charity doesn't know how she arrived in Prairie, and no one believes she actually went to law school. Her evidence is tossed out and Turner is sentenced to hang. She has only one chance to save an innocent man's life and find the real killer.
Forever Faithful is due out in November 2008 with Champagne Books. It's a contemporary romance set in the Hill Country of Texas and involves a young couple who have a perfect life, but want more. Tragedy strikes and they risk losing everything important to them.
Here is a blurb.
Love is like a flame, some days it burns bright and others it dwindles. Faith is the forge upon which love is strengthened to steel.
LUCAS and GAIL JOHNSON live the idyllic life on their ranch near the small town of Stony Creek, Texas. The one thing they want but don't have is a child created from their love. Will an unidentified body pulled from nearby Possum Creek and a single night of indiscretion shatter their dreams of happily ever after?
The Turquoise Legacy, two time travel romances, is coming soon from The Wild Rose Press. Book one is My Heart Will Find Yours, a time travel set in 1880s Waco, Texas. The heroine must save the hero from dying in a shoot out and puts her own life in jeopardy. Book two is Flames on The Sky, a time travel where the hero and heroine travel back to 1000 AD Chaco Canyon to capture an evil spirit bent on destroying part of the Native American Heritage. Both stories revolve around an ancient piece of mystical turquoise.
Another contemporary, also in the Hill Country, is Investment of the Heart. It's due out with Champagne Books in May of 2009. A widow in her early forties is given the chance to love again but is afraid to risk being hurt a second time.
Please tell us what you have planned next?
At present I'm working on a futuristic story. Global warming has changed earth's landscape and alternate types of communities have evolved.
In 5 years, where do you see yourself? In general and in you're writing career.
I'd love to have sold 100,000 copies of at least one of my books.
Who is your perfect hero? And why?
My favorite hero is Marshal Royce Dyson in My Heart Will Find Yours because he is tough, hardened by the Civil War and his job as marshal, yet he has a deep commitment and love for family.
What kind of research do you do for your books? Do you enjoy the research process?
I love research. Much of it involves searching the internet, but I also like to use books. And if possible, I like to travel to the location and get a feel for the setting. I'm personally familiar with all the settings and short stories I've written except for Desires of the Heart, a short story set in the U.K. that will be out March 4, 2009 with The Wild Rose Press. What would be the best way for readers contact you? Do you have a website? Email address? MySpace site? Blog? Message Board? Group?
How can readers find out more about you and your books?
They can visit my website at www.lindalaroque.com/
Thank you for this opportunity to get to know you better. Good luck on that 5 year goal!
