Current Release: Benders

What's your book about?

Escape into a different kind of story. Benders is an exciting, contemporary, science fiction thriller tossed with supernatural powers and a heart-warming romance.

An easy-going young man, Monty has spent his life at a distance from those around him as he hides his unique talent to bend people’s thoughts to do anything he desires. Unaware that these abilities are being monitored, Monty exposes himself with a reckless act and puts himself in the crosshairs of Hazelton, a power-hungry uber-patriot who hunts down each bender for execution to ensure his attempt at seizing global power comes to fruition.

Mieko, Monty’s fiery lover, partners with his oldest friend in a race to find and rescue the best man she’s ever met and the only one powerful enough to save the world from Hazelton's insane plan. Those that know Monty are willing to risk it all for him. Do they have what it takes to accomplish their mission, or will their sacrifice be in vain?

What should readers expect from you titles?

My goal is to focus my creative energy onto the page in a way that both thrills and entertains as I infuse the stories with characters that become fond friends and dreaded enemies that beg to be destroyed. For me it's all about building a story that keeps readers on their toes and developing characters that readers form some type of strong relationship with throughout the book.

Which authors do you follow religiously?

Walter Mosley, Stephen King, and John Grisham would be my top three authors, but my list is quite extensive.

What's next for you as an author?

I have finished the first draft of my second novel, Charlie, which revolves around a teenager as he makes a dramatic and difficult transition from boy to manhood while caught between the expectations of several key men in his life. We're deep in the editing process and hoping to release early Fall. Charlie had a much different feel than Benders and was an exciting challenge for me. It’s grittier and considerably darker at times. In 2014 there will also be Verses, a collection of poetry, as well as a short story entitled The Creed. Two more novels are in the works for 2015, so you could definitely say it is very, very busy around here.

Getting a book to market often takes a village. Who has helped you on the way?

My mother was my inspiration because she instilled in me at an extremely early age a love for books and the value of knowledge and awareness. She consistently encouraged reading which fed my imagination and creative soul. I attribute my tenacity, strength, and creative success to her firm hand and unwavering support.

My significant other, editor, and Marketing & PR Director, kat, also played a huge role. Without her my first published novel and my growing publishing company would have never gotten off the ground, let alone finished. Her dedication and sacrifice to me and these projects are what took us across the finish line.

Also my grandfather, who helped me become the man I am today, and my grandmother, who was my very best friend, were instrumental in bringing me to this point in my life and career.

Others who have been a part of my village would be every English teacher I ever had in school and every childhood friend whose imagination helped sharpen my own.

Do you feel music has inspired your writing?

Music was actually my first love. I devour music, and it is my constant companion as I write. Music helps me focus and bring a scene to life, but it has to be instrumental pieces, nothing with lyrics because lyrics tend to distract me. While I have eclectic taste overall, if I’m writing I listen primarily to epic, bombastic orchestral pieces, and classical music. John Williams, Hans Zimmer, and Vivaldi usually rule the roost depending on the scene I’m laying out. I actually included playlists for each of my on the website for readers to listen to as they read based on some of the tracks I used to help center a scene.

What's your everyday life like? Do you write full-time or do you also hold another job?

Writing is a full-time career for me. With two more novels scheduled for release in the next nine months as well as a small collection of poetry, you could say I live and breathe my words!

Wrapping Up:

I am extremely grateful for ALL of the positive feedback my readers have offered, and I am looking very forward to continuing to deliver stories that move readers minds and hearts.

Check out Benders now available, and look for Charlie coming September 2014.
