The Mango Bride sounds like a fascinating book. Amparo and Beverly seem like strong women searching for the American dream. Thanks for sharing your story.

Great post. Our senses invoke memories, and taste is an important one. I have many good memories that are brought up from the recesses of my mind by taste.

Just reading this made me hungry, and I have just had breakfast! I have noticed that my sense of smell has declined some as I have become older, and I enjoy more strongly spiced dishes than I used to. But as long as either taste or smell works well, enjoyment can be found in favorite and new foods both.

My husband and I love to eat different foods on vacation, but a certain smell can rush me straight back to childhood so for me it's a little of both.

Scent is definitely a strong connection to memories of the present and the past. Most scents are to remind me of very good memories.

reading about the different Filipino fare. My co-worker and his wife make either lumpia or chicken adobo for the potlucks and they are delicious! My mouth is watering just thinking about it.
