Francesca Marinelli is not your normal vampire; she does things normal vampires don't do. She surfs, can stand marginal daylight and doesn't like to bite humans for that reason she drinks bottled flavored blood. She is the talk of the town she lives in and they love her. They are not scared of her and she is the only vampire in town. She was found in a coffin buried under an old Victorian house in a time when vampires were a protected species. Maggie is her sponsor and is also the one who found her. Maggie restores houses back to their former grandeur. When found, Cesca as her new found friends call her, has jumped full head into her new life taking online classes in interior and exterior design, taking salsa classes and playing bridge with her other friends around town. She has taken a job with the Old Coast Ghost Walk as a tour Guide. She has psychic powers when certain moon phases don't fritz them out, which also helps her to see the ghosts that are on the tour. On her first tour she is accosted by an older gentleman threatening her that he will see her dead because of what she is. Plus she has a newlywed couple from France and some Elderly ladies as well as a guy that reminds her of Gomer Pyle. Most of them came back for the second night's tour as well. Everything went well with that tour and after it as she walked home Gomer who's real name is Holland Peters.
When they get her home they find Maggie lying on the ground holding her arm. She hurt it because a big cat wouldn't get out of her way while she was trying to get in the condo building. When Holland bent over to help Maggie up Cesca saw the gun sticking out of the back of his pants. She quickly took Maggie from him and thanked him for the escort home. Then she hustled Maggie inside. Cesca filled Maggie in on the info he had given her about the stiff guy she had nicknamed Stony.
The next morning when she and Maggie's boyfriend, Neil, went surfing at the beach they find the body of Yolette in the water and they bring it in and called the police. As they were waiting on the police they noticed that Yolette had bite marks on her as if a vampire had bitten her, but her neck was also broken and she had been shot as well. This makes Cesca a suspect although Maggie and Neil know she couldn't have done it because she hates to bite people and because Cesca said that she was killed first and then bitten and vampires don't feed on the dead it is not their way. Dead blood is not useful to them it has to be alive.
When she goes to the police station the next morning and meets her new attorney they go over the murder with the detective. Joining them is Deke Saber a preternatural crimes special investigator. During the interview she finds out that her tracker has not been working since Monday night. After the interview when she does her next tour she has teenagers that pretend to be vampires or "blood bunnies" as they are typically called and her usual fan club of Millie the older lady who states she has adopted her to take care of until that old Stony guy can be caught for the murder. Saber stops in to take her tour as well, which didn't sit well with her. She decided to do the tour as she normally would. After he walks her home and they see the cat again. When Cesca went up stairs Saber follows the cat since she had refused to follow it when it had wanted her too. Saber calls up for her to come down to her truck. When she comes down with Maggie and Neil in tow she finds her truck vandalized. Saber had already called in the local police to finish up the details for checking into who might have done this to her truck and to take the leads and such. Maggie and Neil must leave and go out of town but refuse to leave Cesca by herself. She insists she can take care of herself but neither one want her to and don't want to let her have any say so about it. Saber doesn't think she has anything to do with the murder but does think they mean to do her some harm. He means to make s
First in a delightfully irreverent new series-and second to none when it comes to beautiful 227-year-old career women.
Being dead isn't all it's cracked up to be. Take it from Francesca Marinelli, trapped underground for over 200 years and rediscovered during the renovation of a Victorian mansion in historic St. Augustine. A tourist attraction herself, she's well suited for a job as an Old Ghost Town Tour guide. Francesca's due for a new lease on afterlife-and with enough sunblock, she can finally live it.
Unfortunately, everything she learned about men is a little dated. And when people in her tour group turn up dead, naturally the police suspect her. After all, she is a vampire. Which is why a crazed vampire-hunting vigilante squad is out to get her as well. Between the dead bodies, the stalkers, and a seriously non-existent love life, she's starting to wish she was dead. Or at least buried, where she was safe.
