Katie MacAlister is an excellent writer and never ceases to amaze us with her quick aka wicked wit and amazing romantic tales. Fran and Benedikt’s story is one of those to add to that growing list. In the Company of Vampires is a funny, but masterfully written romantic tale with all the paranormal types you could want and more. Fran starts out looking for her mother when she is asked for help by 3 Viking ghosts but winds up with more than she bargained for.
Fran is having problems, her friend gets mistaken for her and gets kidnapped which leaves Fran to believe that Loki is after her. When she gets back home to her apartment the 3 Viking ghosts that she vanquished previously have been sent back to her by a Viking goddess to send Loki back where he belongs. But to her dismay the item she needs is in Europe at the Goth-Faire and with a friend and her mother. When she goes to call her mother to tell her she is coming home her mother seems to be missing and not answering her calls. She makes arrangements to go to the Goth-Faire anyway for two reasons. These reasons are one to get the item and two to find her mother.
When she gets to the Faire her best friend is excited to see her and they tell her that her mother went on a romantic weekend. But still it wasn’t like her mother to run off and not check in. On top of everything Fran’s vampire ex-boyfriend Benedickt is at the faire with a woman, this doesn’t set well with Fran.
Ben and Fran are bit estranged after how things were left between them when they last spoke. She is still thought of as his beloved, and everyone is waiting on that to happen. What is going on? Some things seem to link together but she doesn’t understand why some things are happening the way they are. Why is Ben with that woman?
If only a broken heart were all she had to deal with…
…but there are Viking ghosts, gods, werebeings, and one sexy as sin vampire on Francesca’s case. And her biggest trouble is Loki, the trickster god.
When Fran arrives at Goth-Faire to deal with him, things go from bad to worse, for her immortal ex, Benedikt, is there…with a new girlfriend.
Shapesifters, Vikings, and a town filled with deranged opera fans…it’s a good thing Fran’s no ordinary mortal…
