The Start of Something Good

Jamett & Joseph Series, #1

Jamie has lived a monotonous life of loneliness and work for the last few years. After previous romantic failures, her bruised and battered heart is on hiatus, so she has devoted herself to making her café house a success. Although change is not something she particularly cares for, Jamie makes the necessary move to a new apartment and greets the day to a break-up already in progress. Witnessing the break-up of her neighbor and his girlfriend might be wrong, but Jamie can’t seem to stop watching this very public display – especially since the now ex-boyfriend was only wearing a towel. It is on this fine morning that the next chapter in Jamie’s middle-age life begins.

After several serendipitous twists, Jamie and Joseph give in to the demands of mutual chemistry and begin their journey as friends. Both are uncertain and awkward in this new venture, but the timing of their companionship couldn't be more perfect. Even while Jamie tries to deny what she fears is another heartbreak in the making, Joseph is their to make it clear he’s not going anywhere.

Jamie is an extremely relatable and likable character. Her inner ramblings are perceptive and humorous, which wonderfully supports the first-person narrative. She is also independent and readily admits to being a hoarder among other faults. None of her character traits are extreme and leave plenty of room for continued growth throughout the series. And if that weren’t enough to entice chick-lit and women’s fiction reader’s everywhere then wait ‘til you meet Joseph. He’s sensitive, sweet, and just a touch aggressive when he sets sights on something he wants. After a significantly heartfelt first kiss and a few profound moments that occur between these two, I can’t wait to see what happens next.

The author has a wonderful capability of evoking all of the reader’s senses in a such subtle way that encourages reading this perfectly paced story in one sitting. A light and easy read, this alternately hilarious and heartwarming story is definitely the start of something good!
