Tempting the Player

The Gamble Brothers, #2

Who is the curvaceous, mystery woman locking lips with the “most sought-out bachelor in the major leagues”?

Everything that Chad Gamble did on or off the field was considered news. Even things he may not have done were consistently splashed around as rumored fact. The womanizing, playboy likes to live up to his public image, but lately finds himself in sort of a funk and under pressure by the league to basically shape up or get ready to be shipped out. Unfortunately, lying low has never been Chad's forte and when a certain favorite watering hole turns up with something completely different than his typical female persuasion, Chad begins to think lying low might actually be a good thing... as long as he can do it with her.

With a healthy appetite for food and color, but an unhealthy bank account and concerns over turning into a cat lady at a young age, Bridget can't believe the guy chatting her up and checking her out is the one and only Chad Gamble. Not one to do one-night stands, Chad presents a temptation that is just too much to resist, but Bridget knows the temptation to her heart could be much more devastating. After experiencing a small taste of the pleasure Chad has to offer, Bridget receives the wake-up call she needs to leave the fantasy and go back to reality. That reality consists of being less than six degrees separated from the fantasy himself, but a small price to pay to preserve her heart.

However, there is no price too high for the publicist from hell to preserve her own reputation as well as that of her client, so blackmail is but a negotiating tactic to ensure Chad's public image is elevated. Forcing Chad and Bridget into a reluctant agreement was the easy part, having them fall for each other is an unexpected bonus and yet exactly what they both need – now to convince them of that.

One of the best parts of reading this story was just how easy it was to become immersed in the story and it's characters. Take one nicely built player, add in a confident-in-her-own-skin redhead, a literal fat cat by the name of Pepsi, an evil publicist, some nosy relatives and friends, and an arranged relationship to be perceived as real in the public eye while behind closed doors it gets very real and very hot, and you have one seriously good time waiting to be read. For me, the second story in the Gamble Brothers series is the best so far, but I enjoyed getting an update on Chase and Maddie and look forward to the brooding older brothers' story next.

There is something to be said for the depth these characters have as well as the realistic and for some of them slightly quirky lifestyles each have. The fantastic descriptions and sharp dialogue kept the story moving and always interesting. There are plenty of personalities to make things fun too, but the focus is very much locked on Chad and Bridget and their emotional struggle to deny feelings other than lust for each other. The sexual tension and the physical chemistry between Chad and Bridget is explosive, but the intimacy is elevated with their conversations so there are lots of romantic moments.

It is not necessary to read the first story in the series to enjoy this one, but trust in the fact that once you've read one Gamble Brothers story you will want to devour the next. For all the fans of bad boy players becoming tamed by the full-figured and slightly nerdy woman need to read this story!

Quote: “It was a Friday night, she was at a club, and a good looking man was currently giving her the I-want-to-take-you-home-and-I-hope-I-last-longer-than-five-minutes look…and she was thinking about pie, a young adult book, and feeding her cat.”
