The impending marriage of Maddie's brother is both a happy and dreaded occasion. As if it weren't bad enough that she has no love life to speak of, now she will have to spend the next few day's with the one man she has been in serious like with for most of her life. The wedding vacation in wine country will include all of her loved ones as well as Chase Gamble, the man Maddie mistakenly thought shared the same feelings. Being rejected once should have been enough, but one look at Chase and Maddie knows she's doomed for a repeat.
At one time Maddie was Chase and Mitch's shadow. She followed them around wanting to do all the things they did, but now that she's all grown up, Maddie's become a temptation he needs to resist. Chase believes her to be an impossible fantasy and not just because she's his best friends sister, but he could never be the man she deserves. It is a way of thinking deeply ingrained thanks to witnessing the womanizing and philandering ways of his father. Chase has managed to resist Maddie and will continue to do so for the sake of their friendship, but in life there are no “accidents” and he may not be able to resist her a second time.
After an embarrassing start to the wedding festivities and an inconvenient room mistake, Maddie and Chase have no choice but to face the attraction head-on or kill each other trying to deny it. Maddie's vulnerability and the clumsy situations she finds herself in are hilarious and completely endearing. However, at times I found myself a bit frustrated with how many of those hilarious and embarrassing situations were at her expense. Chase's confidence is sexy, but he is stubborn and very challenging. Maddie is physically unable to resist him, but he pulls away at the worst possible moments which gives a serious complex. The family dynamics are a hoot to read and it is apparent from this first story in the series that the Gamble brothers are notorious and dominating. Already I can't wait to read about the other two brothers and the women up for the challenge.
I really enjoyed how well paced and eventful the story is and the amount of sexual tension that sizzles right off the pages. The author had my full attention from the opening scene to the end and writes with a clarity that is refreshing. It should go without saying that any reader who enjoys adult contemporary romance should check this one out!
Madison Daniels has worshipped her brother's best friend since they were kids. Everyone thinks she and Chase Gamble would make the perfect couple, but there are two major flaws in their logic. 1) Chase has sworn off relationships of any kind, and 2) after blurring the line between friends and lovers for one night four years ago, they can't stop bickering.
Forced together for her brother's wedding getaway, Chase and Madison decide to call a truce for the happy couple. Except all bets are off when they're forced to shack up in a tacky 70’s honeymoon suite and survive a multitude of "accidents" as the family tries to prove their "spark" can be used than for more than fighting. That is, if they don't strangle each other first…
