A Taste of Terror

The Guard My Heart Series, #2

For Chloe nothing in life has come easy. After being abandoned by her parents at an early age, both her and her sister had to grow up fast, but instead of succumbing to a meaningless life, they worked hard and managed to become nurses. After tragedy struck, Chloe now faces the world on her own with a little help from a couple of trusted friends. Things go from bad to worse when she is attacked by a rogue werewolf and left with an unexplained new hardship only to be made even worse when a sexy stranger enters her life and makes things even more complicated.

Cole keeps himself distant and aloof from Chloe since they met, but can’t keep himself away from her completely. He figures it’s better this way until he finishes his mission. The Gods have decided to bless him with a once in an immortal lifetime opportunity and he’s not exactly sure what to do with his new blessing. Chloe’s curiosity continues to peak as she discovers more about herself and the unknown world around her, but Cole refrains from telling her everything. Big mistake.

Ms. Bush has put together a wonderful new paranormal world that deserves further exploration. It was hard not to immerse myself in the story from the beginning and what a pleasant surprise to see how very well rounded the story is by the end. No cliffhangers or questions as to what exactly the future held for our main characters. If Ms. Bush continues with the series, I think I might even know who here next target character might be. I’ll be keeping an eye out on this new-to-me author.

Although it was nice to see both character perspectives being told throughout the story as often as they were, I did find it a bit confusing at some points as to who the focus was. There were also some editing issues and the character dialogue came across a bit stilted at times, but nothing too tremendous to take away from my overall enjoyment of the story. This is the second book to the Guard My Heart series and can be read as a standalone but I fully intend on going back and reading the first and would recommend others do the same.

Book Blurb for A Taste of Terror

When Cole Douglas is sent in search of a rogue werewolf, he thinks the mission will go off without a hitch as so many before. As a Guardian, it is Cole’s job to protect all living beings, mortal and immortal alike. But when sexy nurse/newly turned werewolf Chloe Dunn attacks him, his new mission take a surprising turn as he learns that not only is she beautiful, she is his mate.

Refusing to acknowledge his destiny, Cole continues with his intended mission, only to find that the beautiful creature that attacked him is not only his one true mate but his ticket to finding the rogue werewolf he has been assigned to kill.

Despite the danger lurking all around them, Cole finds himself drawn to the Chloe unlike any woman before. From her golden brown hair to her amber eyes, Cole realizes that even though he doesn’t think he is ready for a mate, just a look from her can set his blood on fire.

Chloe Dunn is just learning to live life as a werewolf when the scent of a stranger sends her into a frenzy and leads her to attack him. Cole is dangerous and wild, something she needs no part of but the overwhelming pull he has on her is more than she can bear. The more time she spends with him, the more she wants him, needs him and will do whatever it takes to have him, even if it means placing herself in the hands of the very rogue that turned her.
