A Night of Southern Comfort

The Boys Are Back in Town, #1

Small town living never sounded so good until I finished reading this story! This might be fiction, but I wouldn't mind at all if the characters of Elliott, Virginia were real – especially “The Boys”. From the first page it became apparent that Jackson and Michaela were characters that I wanted to read about. I didn't just want to read about the developing relationship, but also about what made them the person they are or want to be. They had the sexual chemistry down from the moment their eye's locked on each other, but it wasn't quite so obvious as to what made them tick. That is until we meet Michaela's father, then you'll understand. As for Jack, he's the tortured hero. He's a bit of a mystery and struggles the hardest over the good things that are right in front of him. There's a reason to his madness of course, but it didn't justify completely his hesitations or actions, which is why it was much easier to identify with Michaela. Her strength of character and ambition to live life on her own terms is admirable as well as her chosen profession and the place she chose to perform it in.

I was pleasantly surprised by the sexual activity in this story. What a wonderfully dirty mouth Jackson has and it never failed to amaze me that as each sex scene got a little naughtier his mouth got a little dirtier too. I loved the combination of eroticism, aggression, and sensuality in each scene. Jackson and Michaela may have done things a little backwards by having a physical relationship before an emotional one, but both gave as good as they got and I loved every second of it!

The rest of the cast are definitely characters and each play a role in this and most likely upcoming stories in the series. Attentive, charming, intelligent, and of course handsome, “The Boys” are definitely swoon-worthy. From the womanizing Lucky, to the ultra suave Teague, and the mysterious goodness that is doctor Beck. I can’t wait to get to know the rest of “The Boys” and have many more nights of southern comfort!

All Michaela wanted was to be her own person and break free from a life under the governor’s thumb. On her first night of official freedom, Michaela celebrates with a scorching one-night stand to end all one-night stands. With a bit of regret, but without a backward glance, she throws herself into her new life and new surroundings never thinking that the guy starring in her one-night stand fantasies would be back. However, sex won't complicate anything as long as feelings don't get involved, so having a little fun until things cool down should be no problem. Not likely.

If there was one thing Jackson never thought would happen, it would be a second chance to right the wrong that happened to his career. Only Jack's career hopes depend on a woman he never thought he'd see again, but never forgot. Being utterly and completely seduced by a one-night stand and then assigned to her protection a month later means things just got complicated. Things get even more complicated when he finds that she's set up shop in his hometown, which means not going home is no longer an option. If things go his way, Jack can get in, take out the threat, and leave before things get too deep – or is it already too late?
