The Forgotten Seamstress

The Forgotten Seamstress is a wonderful heart-tugging read. The entire story comprises the coming together of two lives. Maria, a seamstress, who served at Buckingham Palace around the time of WWII, and Caroline Meadows, who is determined to discover the origins of a beautiful quilt found in her mother's attic.

The hard scrabble life led by Maria, and the subsequent hardships that she encounters as a result of her attraction to the Prince...will have you reaching for the Kleenex. The beauty of this book however, lies in the fact that the story is told through the quilt.

What I mean by that is, that as every stitch and embellishment is detailed, the story of occurrences, lives, and people are explained. The quilt serves as a kind of roadmap if you will of Maria's life.

Since Maria is in a mental institution at the time of her interview, there is always a question of what is fact and what is fiction.

Caroline's part of the story is a lot less emotionally taxing than that of Maria, but is no less important. It provides a break from Maria's story and provides much needed direction for the tale.

This is an awesome work of historical fiction and not to be missed!
