Sam Daniels’ life is normally busy and crazy but on the one day he is looking for some down time, at a loss as to what to do with his life, he meets a man. Sam works for a senator who is retiring. He is offered the opportunity to run the campaign to elect the first woman President of the US. The man that Sam meet was Blake Morin. Blake has a quiet life while raising his daughter. He is attracted to Sam and tries to make the long distance thing work. But can they survive the media storm that takes hold when they are spotted out together?
The beginning of the story leaves you wondering how this book will turn out. At the end of the first chapter, I was thrilled to finish the book. The author created a very realistic world that had a sense of time and locations. I was easily pulled into the world she created. The pace of the story was fast paced from the first page to the last. The main characters and the secondary characters were captivating and realistic. I loved that neither Sam nor Blake were perfect and each had faults that they had to deal with making them realistic.
The point of view alternated between Sam and Blake, giving the reader a glimpse inside both characters. The changing point of view was done with care so the reader did not get lost or repeat story lines. The main conflict of the story is the budding relationship between Sam and Blake while Sam runs a presidential campaign. It’s a very long and complicated tale. I enjoyed the realistic feel of the story. The characters fit the story very well. The level of conflict was perfect, and more would have overwhelmed the storyline. The dialogue between the characters was genuine and distinctive. The characters voice matched not only the setting but fit their overall personality. The ending was a bit predictable but the author takes the reader on a wonderful journey. Serve & Protect is the first book in the D. C. Files series by Megan Linden and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
