Secret Studies

Arcaneology, #2

Secret Studies is the second book in the Arcaneology series by C. P. Foster. This book is best read if you read the prior book in the series.

Angie Clark has been running and hiding in plain sight from a million dollar bounty on her head, however her attempt to prevent a war between vampires and humans has left her in trouble again. Steffen puts his life on the line to protect her. This leaves both of them in a position that they cannot deny their feelings for the other.

The beginning of the story leaves wondering how this story will turn out. By the end of the first chapter, I could not wait to finish the book. The author continued to create a vivid and descriptive world that I was pulled into. She was able to give the reader a sense of time and places. She did a great job of making it very realistic. The pace of the story was very fast paces all the way through. The main characters and the secondary characters were appealing and authentic. I liked that Angie and Steffen each were not perfect and each had faults that they had to deal making them realistic.

The point of view stayed with Angie all the way through. At times I would have liked a different point of view to get a different perceptive of things, from either Steffen, James, or Aaron. The main conflict of the story is Angie’s life and how complicated it is. The storyline kept the story moving forward and wanting to know more. The level of conflict was perfect and more and it would have overwhelmed the storyline. The dialogue between the characters was honest and unique. The characters voice matched not only the setting but fit their overall personality. The ending was a bit predictable but the story keeps you entertained all the way through. I hope there is a third book in the series.

Book Blurb for Secret Studies

If she could only stop running, she could start living…

With a million-dollar bounty on her head, Angie Clark has been hiding under the noses of her enemies for nearly a decade. But trying to prevent a war between humans and vampires has landed her in trouble—again. A vampire monarch bent on revenge has taken out a new contract on her, and Angie knows that if she’s caught, her enemies will torture her until she begs for death. Mired in violence and death, keeping her secrets becomes more important than ever. And as her life unravels bit by bit, she fears she’ll have to leave behind everyone and everything that matters to her and run.

But when Steffen Scott puts his life on the line in order to protect her, she can no longer deny her feelings for him. As the threat of war looms over humanity once again, it could mean the annihilation of both species, and Angie must decide whether to keep running or to turn and fight. And maybe find out what she and Steffen could become.
