“Payback” is the first book in The Men of Firehouse 69 series by Lori Toland. This book is about Andre who was Melanie’s brother’s best friend. Now both Andre and Melanie are willing to try having a relationship after Melanie nearly set her kitchen on fire, getting injured in the process.
I enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read more from this series. How can you go wrong with a book that has hunky firefighters in it? I do feel this book is miss titled. There was really no payback toward Andre from Melanie because of the bogus fire safety class. When Andre shows up to give the fire safety class there was hot steamy sex.
At the end I did not like Andre after he wanted to keep the relationship he had with Melanie a secret. I realize that there would be a lot of family pressure when they find out but it made Andre seem kind of like a coward. Andre did redeem himself in the end and that was great.
This was a magnificent quick read at 63 pages. After reading this I wanted to be curled up near the fireplace reading about more hunky firefighters.
Melanie is having a bad day. She nearly set her kitchen on fire and who comes running to her rescue? Firefighter Andre Wellings, her brother's best friend and her long time crush. Now she has to take a fire safety course with him but something's up and she plans to get to the bottom of this.
When Andre gets the call Mel is danger, he's scared to death of losing the woman he's always admired in secret. Now that she's safe, he breathes a sigh of relief until his teammates begin to tease her. Playing pranks on her when they were kids used to be fun but hurting her now isn't an option.
Caught in a web of lies, Andre shows up to her house with plans to set her straight but Melanie has a different idea. Too many years of having her pigtails pulled by Andre has made her hungry for revenge and now it's time for payback.
