Heavy Secrets is the 3.5 book in the Bowen series by Elle Aycart. While you don’t have to read any of the prior books to enjoy this book, it does help to read at least Heavy Issues by Elle Aycart.
Christy Sheridan has turned her life around and is in love with the man of her dreams, Cole Bowen. They are getting married but her meddling mother, who she can’t seem to stand up too, and Cole keeping secrets has the potential to tear them apart.
The beginning of the story leaves you wanting to know more. At the end of the first chapter, I could not wait to finish the book. The author created a realistic world where the reader can picture the time and place. I was pulled into the world with realistic characters and a believable setting. The pace of the story was steady and fast. The main characters and the secondary characters were stimulating and likeable. I loved that both Christy and Cole each had faults that they had to deal with which made them realistic.
The point of view alternated between Cole and Christy, giving the reader a glimpse inside both characters. The changing point of view was done with care so the reader did not get lost or repeat story lines. The main conflict of the story is the relationship between Christy and Cole as they get closer to getting married. I loved how Christy could not stand up to her mother until her mother started in on Cole. The conflict is perfect and more would have detracted from the overall love story. The dialogue between the characters was honest and unique. The characters voice matched not only the setting but fit their overall personality. The ending was a bit predictable but the author takes the reader on a wonderful journey. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
