The Enchanted Land

The Enchanted Land is one of Jude Deveraux’s earliest novels. The dialogue and the plot are a bit rough, but one can easily see the talent that shines so very well in her later novels. It seems to have a lot going on, so many things happening to the characters before they are finally allowed to find peace. The characters are strong, if a tad bit flawed. Seth never listens to Morgan, Morgan, being so inexperienced, doesn’t understand what she does to Seth. Both of them cause themselves so much pain and misery that could have been avoided, if they would have just sat down together and talked things out. Even though it’s over 30 years old, it’s still a very good read.

Morgan’s fathers will stipulated that Morgan must marry and live on the family’s ranch in New Mexico for a year, or she loses it all. Morgan’s uncle is trying his best to stop her, as he is the next in line if she fails. What he never counted on was Seth Colter, and Morgan’s determination to be free. Morgan makes a business arrangement with Seth, to marry her and take her to New Mexico. Morgan wants the marriage to be in name only, but doesn’t count on falling in love with Seth on the journey. Seth didn’t plan on it either. Both certainly never thought that supposed friends would conspire to split them apart. Can they overcome the obstacles thrown in their paths or will the treachery of others keep them forever apart?
