A Drop of Blood

This is a short steamy read, perfect for when you don’t have time to get involved in a big thick book. In fact, my only complaint was that it wasn’t long enough. I think this story would be an excellent starting place to build this into a longer tale, if Ms. Grace chooses to do so. I would love to hear more about Pet, her rescuers, and her life before and after captivity.

This seems as if it is a small part of a larger work. It almost seems to start in the middle. Then when you’ve finished reading, you find out that that’s not how it is at all. It’s hard to tell a short story and make sure that everything flows together, creating a beginning, middle and end. Sometimes some readers might feel that the author didn’t spend enough time showing the characters, developing them. Other readers will feel that the author did a great job developing the characters. I think Ms. Grace might be an author like that. The first time I read the story through, I was feeling confused. Then I reread it, and noticed some details that I missed before, and it clicked. The book blurb doesn’t give a detailed description of the story, so I will try not to give anything away in my summary.

Pet is a captive, with no memories of who she is, or even how she came to be a captive. She’s put in an escape pod when her captor’s ship is attacked. When she sees some men searching for her, she’s torn about whether to go to them or hide. She hides, but is found anyway. Her rescuers say they just want to help her, but she’s not sure if she can trust them or not. When she finds out that she can find out who she is and where she came from, with just a single drop of blood, she’s overjoyed.

Book Blurb for A Drop of Blood

Pet has existed in a limbo of confinement and pampering as her owners use her for a symbol of their power.

During an attack they eject her in a survival pod and she ends up on a habitable world, working to survive.

When a group of men arrive and they seem to be looking for her, she fights the urge to run to them for safety, choosing to hide instead.

They find her anyway and bring her to their ship, and that is when she finds out that her true identity is not Pet, but it will be found in a single drop of blood.
