A sci-fi romance, Shades of Dark is a sequel to Gabriel's Ghost. Captain Chasidah Bergren and her lover Gabriel Ross Sullivan "Sully", a man with extraordinary paranormal powers, have embarked on an intense romance when her brother is arrested. Even though they are in hiding, Chasidah and Sully plan a rescue.
While they are dodging captors, Sully's powers grow to intoxicating levels that seduce and scare them both. Then they meet Del, a man who teaches Sully how to reign in and use his abilities. The only problem is that Del wants Chasidah for himself.
But there are bigger problems afoot, like mass murders, government corruption and betrayals that threaten to tip the delicate balance in the galaxy.
Part mystery, part action, part thriller, part romance and all sci-fi, Shades of Dark packs it all in. It has a fast-paced, chaotic plot with a lot of characters and conflicts. It is obvious the author was meticulous in keeping it all straight though the plot takes some work to follow.
With so much happening along with technical terms and descriptions of unusual surroundings and paranormal abilities, my mind went on overload and I found myself losing interest.
The writing is excellent though and the world that Ms. Sinclair has created is brought into vivid detail. For die-hard sci-fi fans this may be a perfect read.
For two fugitive lovers, space has no haven, no mercy, no light—only...
