"Wicked Designs" is the first book in the 'League of Rogues' series and I have to tell you these rogues are my new book boyfriends! I adored this book. Smith’s books are fast paced, adventurous, and keep you guessing. Her writing reminds me a lot of the brilliant Julia Quinn’s work, and I can’t wait to read more. "Wicked Designs" kicks off the series with the very smart Miss Emily Parr and rogue Godric St. Laurent, Duke of Essex.
Our hero is a bit of an anti-hero at first, because he kidnaps Emily to gain revenge on her uncle who has embezzled funds from him. The way Smith has drawn the characters and starting with this nefarious arrangement allows her to fully develop her characters and grow them into three-dimensional beings. It’s not just the hero and heroine who grow emotionally throughout the book but everyone who Emily comes into contact with, including every one of the League of Rogues. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. Filled with fun moments, romantic moments, and adventurous moments, "Wicked Designs" is a great read.
Miss Emily Parr knows she’s going to have to do something desperate to save herself from an unwanted marriage with her uncle’s repulsive business partner. She just never thought she’d have to save herself from kidnapping as well. What starts out as a bit of a lark for Godric St. Laurent and his League of Rogues becomes much more serious and life-changing than any of them ever thought. Not only will Godric risk losing his heart, but the entire League might fall at Emily’s feet as well. Godric is going to have to move fast before someone moves to take Emily away from him.
The League of Rogues takes what they want—but have they taken on too much?
For too long Miss Emily Parr has been subject to the whims of her indebted uncle and the lecherous advances of his repulsive business partner. Her plan to be done with dominating men forever is simple—find herself a kind husband who will leave her to her books.
It seems an easy enough plan, until she is unexpectedly abducted by an incorrigible duke who hides a wounded spirit behind flashing green eyes.
Godric St. Laurent, Duke of Essex, spends countless nights at the club with his four best friends, and relishes the rakish reputation society has branded him with. He has no plans to marry anytime soon—if ever. But when he kidnaps an embezzler’s niece, the difficult debutante’s blend of sweetness and sharp tongue make him desperate for the one thing he swears he never wanted: love.
Yet as they surrender to passion, danger lurks in Godric’s shadowed past, waiting for him to drop his guard—and rob him of the woman he can’t live without.
Warning: This novel includes a lady who refuses to stay kidnapped, a devilish duke with a dark past, and an assortment of charming rogues who have no idea what they’ve gotten themselves into.
