"Claimed by a Highlander" is the second book of The Douglas Legacy by Margaret Mallory. This book follows the plight and adventures of the Douglas sisters who due to their family were left to the whims of fate in the family’s bitter struggle for the Scottish Crown. The Douglas Legacy is well researched and lends credibility to what life might have been like for one of the Douglas sisters during the bitter feud. Though Sybil Douglas is a fictional character her struggles to find her way in a world that’s turned against her family and where women do not have much say in their own lives is realistic and engaging. I enjoyed reading her happily ever after and the historical bits that Ms. Mallory has woven into the story.
Rory MacKenzie is just a few minutes too late in trying to dissolve his marriage contract with one of the Douglas girls. Abandoned by her family as her brothers flee Scotland after being accused of treason Rory finds that he can’t set aside his own ideals of honor to abandon Sybil to her fate as well. Accepting her as his bride is just the beginning though. Now he’s going to have to convince her that she’s better off with him and somehow find a way to deliver his clan from an unexpected firestorm of murder and intrigue. Action packed, historically interesting, with an engaging romance "Claimed by a Highlander" is an entertain read for any summer afternoon.
