I love reading a book with a mixture of historical fact and fiction mixed together. One of the reasons I selected this book to read is that the hero was David Hume. The Hume family is an eons back connection to my family history so I was intrigued when I spotted the name in the write up. I’m so glad I picked it up because I really enjoyed the way the author spun the tale. The story is well written, intriguing, believable, and very well paced. I also enjoyed reading about the various historical figures that inspired certain characters in the story in the afterword. I think especially with historical fiction basing the characters on people from the past deepens the story. It’s interesting to imagine “what if this is what happened” because in the history books so much is left out. Especially when it comes to the female historical figures. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books in this series in the future.
Captured by a Larid is the first book in a new series by Margaret Mallory. The story focuses on David Hume and Lady Alison Douglas. For most of her life Alison has been a pawn to the people that should have valued her more. When her abusive husband finally dies she thinks she’s finally free to enjoy her widowhood. But the dream of being a widow for the rest of her life is not to be hers. Once again thrown into the bitter feud for the crown Alison ends up forcibly wedded to David Hume, but unlike her last wedding there’s a lot more at stake. The struggle fro the crown, mix of history, and sensual love story between Alison and David make this book well worth the read.
The Douglas sisters, beauties all, are valuable pawns in their family’s bitter struggle to control the Scottish Crown. But when powerful enemies threaten, each Douglas lass will find she must face them alone.
