Blood Ties is the second book of the Searchers trilogy and focuses on the story of Savannah Slade and the mystery surrounding her birth parents. Like her other sisters, Savannah is not aware that she is "adopted" until the reading of their father's will. Finding out that not only are they not truly related, but that their father was a travelling evangelical preacher who ended up raising them at the request of their mother turns the sister's world upside down. Now Savannah, who is almost engaged to her long time boyfriend Judd, must take a journey alone to find out where she comes from and what happened to her birth parents.
As Savannah delves deeper into her past and the mystery surrounding her parents she unwittingly causes a series of events to unfold that put her at the center of a high profile investigation. Unfortunately the police are looking at her as a suspect and alone in a different state Savannah finds herself having to not only stand up for herself and fight for justice but longing for Judd and the life they could build together.
Sharon Sala is a gifted story-teller; her novels often delve into a level of emotional realism that is both cathartic and thought provoking. Although this story is billed as Romantic Suspense it is much heavier on the suspense side than the romance. Most of the book our hero and heroine spend apart, but in the end once they are in the same state things start to heat up romantically. This second installment of the Searchers series is a satisfying read and will leave readers longing for the final book in the series.
