A Wanted Man

A Wanted Man is the first book I’ve read by Rebecca Hagan Lee and I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised. Not by how well written it was, because it certainly is so, but because Ms. Lee took a different view of the Old West and focused on the strife of the Chinese during the gold rush and boomtown years. This is a subject you don’t read much about when it comes to the romance genre and I admit it’s a subject that doesn’t often fit the romantic tale. But for these two lovers it’s not only what brings them together it is the start of their relationships foundation. Ms. Lee has done a wonderful job of creating a story that will leave readers thinking about how much women have overcome since the late 1800s and hoping Ms. Lee releases another book soon.

Julie Jane Parham is a woman with a foot in two worlds, the proper world of her peers and the Chinese world of her best friend Su Mi. Julie, raised in Hong Kong, is determined to find out what happened to her friend Su Mi who was tricked into marriage and taken to San Francisco. Julie is determined to find her and bring her home. Will Keegan also finds himself stuck between two worlds. The sordid business of running a saloon with sporting women and running an underground rescue railroad for Chinese women. When the two lovers collide more than sparks fly and it isn’t long before Will realizes that he’s going to have to safe Julie from more than just her headstrong self.

Book Blurb for A Wanted Man

A thoroughly English girl raised in Hong Kong, Julie Jane Parham has spent her entire life walking the line between two worlds. When her closest friend, Su Mi, becomes the victim of an arranged marriage gone horribly wrong, Julie travels to San Francisco in order to buy back her freedom and soon finds herself in over her head.

On a rescue mission of his own, Will Keegan uses his saloon, The Silken Angel, as a front to whisk Chinese prostitutes away from the city’s ruthless brothel owners to a life of freedom, risking his own hide in the process.

Sparring with a spirited British lady is the last thing Will Keegan needs, but he isn’t about to let lovely Julie throw herself headfirst into danger. And as the urge to protect her turns into something more, Will knows he must get Julie to trust him, or chance losing her forever
