I would give this book 10 stars if it were allowed.
Can a vampire, a witch, a pixy and elf survive a cross country trip in one car and all in one piece and without killing each other?
Rachel needs to get to California, not only for her brother’s wedding, but to confront the coven and try to get reinstated and in their good graces. Her best friends and partners have agreed to help her.
Trent needs to get to Seattle, for an "elven quest" and his body guard Quen is unable to go due to the imminent birth of his child who will also be the first elven baby. Quen will only let Trent go if Rachel acts as his bodyguard for the trip.
All of a sudden all ways to California are no longer available due to someone trying to kill either Rachel, Trent or both. The only available mode of transportation is Rachel's mother's car. And so the trek begins.
Will they all make it there and safely? Will Rachel get re-instated or have to spend time in Alcatraz? What is Tren's quest and why all the mystery surrounding it?
For the answers to these questions and one hilarious story read Kim Harrison's Pale Demon.
This was a perfect book for me. It had intrigue, comedy, and danger. I laughed, cried, and couldn’t wait to see what was next, but loving it so much I didn't want it to end. I was not able to put it down and read till the wee hours of the morning and was glad I did.
This book is not even out yet and I am anxiously awaiting the next installment. With this book I have now forgiven Kim for ending a part of one of my favorites, but now like the way this story is heading. Pale Demon is definitely on my list of books to tell all my friends to read. Thanks Kim for not letting me down.
Condemned to death for black magic and shunned, Rachel Morgan has three days to somehow get to the annual witches convention in San Francisco and clear her name. If she fails, the only way she can escape death is to live in the demonic ever after . . . for ever after.
Banned from the flight lists, Rachel teams up with elven tycoon Trent Kalamack, headed for the West Coast for her own mysterious business. But Rachel isn't the only passanger along for the ride. Can a witch, an elf, a living vampire, and a pixy in one car survive for over 2,300 miles? And that's not counting the assassin on their tail.
A fearsome demon walks the sunlight, freed after centuries of torment to slay the innocent and devour souls. But his ultimate prey is Rachel Morgan. While the powerful witch with nerves of steel will do whatever it takes to stay alive, even embracing her own demonic nature may not be enough to save her.
