Really Cool People & Places - TIME For Kids Book of Why

Do you know why the Titanic sank so fast or why the Civil War was fought? The Time For Kids Book of Why includes 250 facts that kids want to know about different people and places. This book is separated into two sections: History and People & Places. The realistic photos and colorful illustrations flow well with the snippets of information. There are words in bold throughout the book that may be unfamiliar to kids. These words are listed along with their definitions in the Glossary section. The Further Reading section includes web sites and a book list where kids can continue learning in more detail some of the items discussed in the book.

There are other titles in the Time For Kids Book of Why series. Each book contains around 250 answers to questions kids ask. Each question is answered with a short paragraph and some include an illustration. This book is a great educational tool for kids. I think the Further Reading section is a good idea to give kids other resources for some of the subjects they want to read more about. Even though the book says it’s for kids, I believe that there are some cool facts here for adults as well.

TIME for Kids The BIG Book of Why: People and Places answers the why, what, when, where, who and how questions about people and places in history that kids commonly ask, but adults can rarely answer. Why did the Maya build pyramids? Did Vikings really have horns on their helmets? Why did Christopher Columbus sail to America? Why did the Titanic sink? Why is the London Bridge in Arizona?

Written in an upbeat manner, each answer is accompanied by either a photo or an illustration to show the reasons why. Of course, TIME For Kids goes beyond answering the question, and dips into the science or history to further explain the answer in an easy-to-follow, straightforward manner.

TIME for Kids The BIG Book of Why: People and Places is a must-have book to satisfy the most curious of kids.
