Fixation was a really good read. I enjoyed the characters and the storyline. Maya volunteers at a big cat rescue and has some psychic powers. She doesn't really use her psychic powers but she can read someone else's thoughts for the most part. When the new jaguar arrives she is drawn to it but she doesn't know why. It is not acting like one normally does entirely and it has fixated on Maya. Maya goes to sleep after volunteering outside in front of the new Jaguar's enclosure one night and has this crazy, impossible, and sexy dream. In the dream the jaguar turns into a man, Balam, and then they both turn into jaguars and have sex. Only when she wakes up it turns out to be real and she is stuck inside the enclosure as a jaguar and Balam is outside the cage.
The setting of the book was written well. I do not really know the area that it was set in, but it all felt real. The characters were well written and I enjoyed them greatly as I got to know them. I was rooting for Maya through the entire story as she was handed blow after blow to deal with. The plot of the story was well written also. It gets your attention and keeps it. I wanted to figure out how they were going to defeat Anani, the evil sorceress. There are plenty of twists and turns in this book to keep a reader's attention. The sex is fairly explicit and fairly frequent. It draws Balam and Maya closer together and gives them more power. Emotions are involved for the most part the entire time.
There’s something different about the new jaguar... Maya is a seasoned expert on big cats, but when a prime new specimen arrives from the jungles of Belize, even she falls under its spell. She soon finds herself pulled deep into a mystery involving psychic forces and a sorceress who holds the key to the the end of the world itself. Maya must use her own psychic powers and strength of will to survive ... even as her heart and body are taken captive by a handsome stranger who is determined to possess her.
When a jaguar fixates, it will go through whatever is in its way to get what it wants...
