After my last historical read this story felt like a sweet, easy read that I enjoyed overall. Wholesome, romantic and even daring this story was certainly one that I recommend. "The Illegitimate Duke" was a bit standard and yet I think average is fine for this story. The story contained zero forceful nature, the romance felt genuine and believable and the hero was a gentleman and so I’m happy. Yes, happy to have a gentleman rather than a man who has a bad boy reputation in whatever era he is in.
Both of the characters I felt like had something they felt like they needed to prove... but only to themselves.
Florian, the hero was guarding a close secret against his chest. I felt sympathy for him. I love Florian’s character. He is a rare hero. He made the book for me. I also liked Juliette, the heroine. Juliette was strong but at the same time was not over willing for me as the reader. Together, she and Florian interwove a story of romance based within the compounds of a medical understanding. I liked it. This historical romance novel has an excellent plot. I would love to high five the author for carefully thinking out this plot and delivering such a worthy story!
I am happy with this historical romance book. Well, maybe I am overjoyed with this book. Either way you should give it a read. I think you will be glad that you did.
United in a common cause…
Lady Juliette Matthews longs to be much more than just another pretty ornament in society. But using her recently acquired fortune to do some good is more complicated than she anticipated. Young ladies are not expected to risk their safety in helping the less fortunate. And the one gentleman who could help in her mission is stubborn, infernally handsome—and far too honorable to act on their mutual attraction.
And in a desire impossible to deny…
Florian Lowell has suddenly been made heir to the Duke of Redding—a far cry from his status as a dedicated physician. Yet even with his new role as the country’s most eligible bachelor, the beautiful, fearless Juliette is utterly beyond his reach. The scandalous circumstances of his birth would destroy both their reputations if they became known. But when a more urgent danger threatens Juliette’s life, Florian must gamble everything…including the heart only one woman can tame.
