Outcast Season, Book 3

Book three in Rachel Caine's Outcast Season series begins with a bang—page one and the reader has already been thrown into the middle of the action. However, a word of advice: read this series in order! I made the mistake of missing book two, and I paid for this as I tried to figure out Unseen. Is it still possible to read the book without the others? ..Yes...but why would you? After all, once you reach the last page of any of her books, you'll be running back out to the store for more to tide you over until a new book comes out. Save yourself the trouble of late night bookstore runs and just buy them all at once—trust me, you will thank me later!

This novel is a great example of urban fantasy at its best. High-power thrill, cut-throat adventures, mystical powers and beings beyond our understanding combine to make one hell of a joy ride! Add in the romance element that pops in and out and you've got a guilty-pleasure to die for.

My only complaint lies not in the story or the action, but rather in the romance. All this time (three books) and the only thing Luis and Cassiel get up to is one relatively tame night of passion? I think Caine's teen series (Morganville Vampires) has more heat and caged passion then Unseen! Perhaps I'm simply too addicted to my romance novels, and therefore can't fully appreciate this clean action/fantasy novel, but this reader prefers a bit more passion in this otherwise intriguing series.

4.5 STARS! Action, suspense, and fantasy—all combined perfectly and shaken with a little romance to round out the flavor. It seems that you can't go wrong with picking up one of Ms. Caine's books, no matter the genre or age group they are written for. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to find Undone so I can get caught up on this particular series.

Book Blurb for Unseen

After Cassiel and Warden Luis Rocha rescue an adept child from a maniacal Djinn, they realize two things: the girl is already manifesting an incredible amount of power, and her kidnapping was not an isolated incident.

This Djinn-aided by her devoted followers-is capturing children all over the world, and indoctrinating them so she can use their strength for herself. With no other options, Cassiel infiltrates the Djinn's organization-because if Cassiel cannot stop the Djinn's apocalyptic designs, all of humanity may be destroyed.
