If you enjoy Diana Palmer’s books, you may like this one. I did not find this story as interesting as earlier books she has written. The characters were hard to like. Niki is Ms. Palmer’s typical naïve sheltered virgin but she comes across as too stupid to live. Niki is made fun of because she attends church and has old fashion ideas. Her sense of fashion and ideas on what a woman should want in life appear to be rooted in the 50’s. And, her frail condition of asthma seems to be over the top. Blair is a rich oilman who loves to throw away money. If he really did that, he wouldn’t have that much money for long! And, Ms. Palmer wants you to realize that he is rich so she emphasizes it frequently. The big issue for these characters was the 16 year age gap. Of course, every man Niki dates is a jerk and Blair treats Niki as if she is a child and she acts that way a lot too. Yet, if you enjoy romance as it use to be with little to no sex and nothing graphic, you may enjoy this one. There is pre-marital sex and Blair’s ex comes out as being a lesbian which does bring it closer to this century. But, it is definitely old fashion and feels dated.
Niki has loved her father’s best friend, Blair since she met him at 17. She knows that he sees her as a little girl but he is who she wants. Maybe he’ll wait until she grows up. Blair has noticed Niki but he is 16 years older than her and feels she needs to date boys her age. However, Niki isn’t interested in boys. They seem immature. Her friends set her up on blind dates which don’t go well. Even through college, Niki doesn’t date. Can she ever attract Blair’s attention so that he’ll see her as an adult?
