C.J. Callahan enjoys running the bar his uncle started. It’s nothing fancy but it’s a great place for guys to hang out. His grandfather started a computer company which his father heads and his brother did work for until health issues forced him to leave it. In just days C.J. is going to have to take the position of CEO of it even though he would prefer staying working at the bar. And, it’s not like C.J. doesn’t know computers. He’s developed and sold three computer games.
C.J. also has his mind wondering to Cicely St. John, a beautiful woman he shared a dance with at their friends’ wedding. They didn’t exactly hit it off yet C.J. would love to get to know here better. Why is he thinking of a fashion snob?
Cicely loves working in fashion. It’s her passion in life even though her family thinks she is wasting her time and talents. They want her to excel in academia! Maybe they will respect her if she gets the promotion she is up for, editor of the Paris edition of the fashion magazine she works for. She doesn’t have time for men or a relationship so why is she drawn to C.J.?
The mutual attraction they feel only gets stronger as they struggle with work. Can they even become friends or will they become more or will they just agree to tolerate each other due to their differences?
This is the sixth book in Francis Ray’s Grayson Friends series. It is not necessary to read the previous books to thoroughly enjoy this one. Some characters from previous books do make an appearance in this one but that does not distract from the story.
The characters are very well done. They have depth and feel real. C.J.’s family is involved in his life so they appear fairly often. Cicely’s family has influenced her life and her choices but they only briefing appear. Both of their jobs factor into their lives which gives you insight on their values.
Secondary characters are done just as well. They have likes, dreams and desires. Of course, the newlyweds desires are a bit different than the rest of the characters. But, they all come across as people you would know.
The conflicts are realistic. It’s a balancing act to do well at a high powered job and work on a relationship. Striving towards a goal can make you ignore other aspects of your life. Neither C.J. nor Cicely are thinking about long term but that doesn’t mean it won’t happen!
I enjoyed this sweet and tender romance. The passion that the characters felt towards each other, people they care about and their work came across so intense that you could help but to be drawn into their lives. The needs and desire to fulfill those needs became a driving force.
Absolutely terrific story that has me wanting to read more. Luckily, more will be coming as there is a preview for Sin’s story and then there is C.J.’s sister and …….who knows how many more and I’ll be looking forward to all of them!
IT'S NEVER TOO LATE
Cicely St. John is not impressed by her friend C.J. Callahan's so-called passion in life: running a New York City bar that he inherited from his uncle. So why can't Cicely stop thinking about the dance they shared at their mutual friend's wedding-or the mutual attraction she felt in C.J.'s arms?
TO GIVE LOVE A CHANCE
As far as C.J. is concerned, Cicely is a snob whose "passion" in life-writing for fashion magazines-is as pretentious as she is. So why can't he keep his eyes off her? C.J. has a business to run. And Cicely has a job opportunity in Paris. Neither of them even has time to think about romance right now. But maybe, just once, the two could test their friendship...with just one kiss.
